Are you off campus?
  • Access to most library-licensed databases, E-Books, and E-Journals from off campus is limited to current students, faculty, and staff of the University of Florida. Note that you will see markings by each database indicating any restrictions.
    • *     Indicates that a database is licensed for off campus use only by current UF students, staff, and faculty.
    • **    Indicates that some resources are available without restriction, and some are not.
    • Those not marked with   *   or   **   should be freely accessible from anywhere.
  • If you are working from off campus, you must be connected using the UF VPN or the Library EZproxy. Be sure to do this before attempting to connect to links below.

Eureka (12 Databases)
Alert! Eureka service ended September 30, 2007; all databases continue to be available; see below.

What has happened?
The Research Libraries' Group (RLG) originally provided the Eureka databases on its own platform. RLG has merged with OCLC and most Eureka databases moved to the OCLC FirstSearch service. As part of the merger, the RLG Union Catalog has been integrated into OCLC's WorldCat database. Several of the Eureka databases have versions freely available on the Web and are not included in FirstSearch.

  • Upon connection, from the Home Page you may immediately enter one or more search terms and select a topic to find what databases may be best to select for your research. You may also click "Suggest Best Databases" for more options before entering a search. In either case, FirstSearch can help you locate the best database before you perform your search by scanning all available FirstSearch databases and reporting the estimated number of matches in each for your search term(s).
  • You may also click "List Databases by Topic" and select one of the 17 Topic Areas for some broad guidance on which databases may be appropriate to your research.

More details about the Quick Links Page
Top
  • If you are not on campus, be sure to first connect to UF using one of the Off Campus Access options.
    • Databases should all be available from UF campus computers (in a campus library, in campus offices, in IFAS Research Centers, etc.)
    • *     Indicates that a database is licensed for off campus use only by current UF students, staff, and faculty.
    • **    Indicates that some resources are available without restriction, and some are not.
    • Those not marked with   *   or   **   should be freely accessible from anywhere.
  • This Quick Links page now includes almost every database, etc. for which there is a record in the Research Gateway.
    • If you have difficulty finding a database name, you may want to try using your browser's FIND ON PAGE option to look for a particular text string. For example, some abbreviations are included in the full database name entered, but not at the beginning (so are not showing in alphabetic order).
    • To find a database using an alternate name or abbreviation, search the Research Gateway on the Finding Databases page.
    • More information about a database (description, etc.) can often be found upon connecting; look for "About", "?", "Help", "Info", etc. links. Research Gateway records also include a description (e.g. subjects and years covered, etc.) Click Database Information there to display.
  • A-Z list entries in boxes with light blue background color are the major services having multiple databases listed near the top of the page.
    • Other options for connecting (e.g. to a "Quick Search" or "Advanced Search") -- or tips for using the service --  may be shown.
    • Many of these services allow selecting and searching several databases from that service together ("Cross Searching").
    • Be aware that searching more than one database may result in some search options available when searching each database individually being sacrificed.
